The ninth meeting of the ANHAR Network
The ninth meeting of the Arab Network for Human Rights Films and Festivals (ANHAR) took place during the 14th Karama Human Rights Film Festival. It was attended by founding members, and guests, including teams from the Karama Festival in Yemen, Karama Beirut, the Human Screen Festival from Tunisia, the Karama Festival in Jordan, the Sudan Independent Cinema Festival, and the Association Action 216 from Tunisia.
The meeting focused on discussing the role of the Arab network in the distribution and exchange of human rights films in the region. Emphasis was placed on the importance of networking and forming new alliances with funding entities interested in our core issues. The establishment of a committee to activate joint events between founding and new members was also highlighted.
ANHAR, the Arab Network for Human Rights Films and Festivals is a regional project with members from 11 Arab countries. Nine years into its creation, ANHAR continues to be an evolving network working towards connecting activists, filmmakers, festival directors, and spaces for screening human rights films together. To build bridges and encourage the exchange of expertise and capacity building through events, co-productions, and advocacy campaigns.
The network Funded by The National Endowment for Democracy, supports its members’ film festivals with unique film packages ready to screen, and diverse capacity-building programs for its teams.
Namely, the members are Karama Human Rights Film Festival – Jordan, Karama Beirut HRFF, Red Carpet Festival Karama-Palestine, Karama HRFF, Sudan Independent Film Festival-Sudan, Human Screen Festival -Karama Tunisia, Bidayyat for Audio Visual Arts-Syria, The White Nights Film Festival-Morocco, Umam for Documentation and Research Lebanon, SEMAT Production Egypt, Action 216 Tunis, Umam Human Rights Film Festival – Mauritania.
