Karama Human Rights Film Festival – Jordan

Karama Human Rights Film Festival concluded its 15th edition, held from December 5 to 13, 2024, at the Royal Cultural Center in Amman. Under the theme “Justice for the Global South,” the festival presented more than 90 films from around the world, including narrative, documentary, and animated works, focusing on social and environmental justice issues.

This year’s edition served as a vital platform for addressing injustices faced by marginalized communities worldwide, highlighting the power of cinema as a tool for resistance and advocacy. Participating films represented a wide range of perspectives, including works from Arab countries such as Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and Morocco, alongside international contributions from Europe, Asia, and Latin America, with first-time participation from Bangladesh and Ecuador.

The festival featured not only film screenings but also panel discussions, workshops, and interactive sessions, fostering dialogue among filmmakers, activists, and audiences. It also celebrated Jordanian cinema, showcasing ambitious works addressing regional and global human rights issues with courage and creativity.

The closing ceremony awarded winners in multiple categories, including the Karama Feather for Best Documentary Feature, Best Narrative Short, and the ANHAR Award for Best Human Rights Film, reinforcing the festival’s position as a leading platform for human rights cinema in the region.
